T--- shirt making.....?

I dont have a official company or anything, but I want to make some shirts. If I design and produce a few shirts, do i need to copyright and get trademarks- to make sure my designs cant be copied? Because I dont want to pay to get copyrights/ trademarks right now- just to try out some designs.
